At least I waited until my son was out before agreeing to it. My reason was I had stopped contracting for hours and I even had to push without contractions for 2 hours. The idea was that I was no longer producing contractions due to my Lupus and the placenta wouldn't come out on it's own without contractions. I hope I did the right thing :(

Re: 21 Reasons to Say No to Pitocin According to Manufacturer

Fast forward to Dec 2013: I had my baby boy, 22 hours of labor, stopped having contractions and he got stuck. NO DRUGS. Nothing. It was a complicated birth, shoulder dystocia, I took the pitocin once my son was out and safe ONLY because I stopped having contractions for 2 hours and then once he was out there WAS a risk of not expelling the placenta. (I have Lupus so my medical risk was high giving birth to begin with but most women don't have these sorts of problems.) Looking back though, I was delirious, had just suffered immense pain for over 22 hours, no sleep and the fear of my baby dying, so when I was approached in a heated moment with doctors and other professionals pushing the pitocin on me all I cared about was living. And when they brought up the vitamin K shot for my son, (even though I had previously and emphatically said no, the midwife took advantage of my state of mind at the time talking about my sons safety etc and APPARENTLY I said yes) The only reason I know he got the Vit K shot was because months later when I got his records it was in the records but I had no recollection of agreeing to it and when I contacted my midwife she assured me that I did in fact say YES right after I pushed him out. Which is BS since I had said time and time again while in a NORMAL state of mind that I did NOT want my son to receive that shot but when I was in a state that was completely altered I was taken advantage of. Great system.

Re: Ramon Banks & the Shiny Victim Theory

As the Aunt of Stephanie and a former correctional officer ....it is doesn't matter how they chose certain cases. We are all held accountable for our actions ....He knew what the punishment for murder is in the state of Texas......Stephanie ' s children were present and witnessed the whole thing.....His aunt told me he was going to kill her kids but he ran out of bullets so yes he should have gotten the death penalty. .....Even the Bible tells us to live by the laws of man as well as God's....It always amazes me how easy it is for people to kill sometimes in unthinkable ways but when it come time for their trial and the death penalty is on the line how quick they r to cut a deal to have it taken off ......since it's so much more humane than what they did to their victim (s). Why should it matter more who some one kills ? All that should matter is the fact that they've killed.....

Re: 21 Reasons to Say No to Pitocin According to Manufacturer

"For example, it is not true that Pitocin is contraindicated for someone
with a previous cesarean and it doesn't say that in the insert..."

The insert does discuss this - It's #3 under "Precautions."

Re: Life in the MotherHood!

Hunny, everyone's got different body types and everyone's going to look different pregnant. It will remain that way until puberty. Up until that time the foreskin SHOULD NEVER BE RETRACTED FORCEFULLY!!!!! Washing in bath or shower just like the fingers is all that is needed. After puberty DO NOT use SOAP, just rinse with plain water. Soap interferes with the natural enzymes under the foreskin.

Re: Aboriginal Australians are First Humans to Leave Africa, DNA Reveals

do you have any evidence that austrralians came from africa? please show me.

Re: Pit Bull Mauls Pregnant Woman to Death (VIDEO)

I am saddened for this family's loss, but angry that everyone is trying to throw up the "Pit Bulls are viscous card" .. any kind of dog can do something like this.. This is like labeling an entire race, or culture, or political party solely on the behavior of a few, and it isn't fair to the dogs. Not fair at all, to the dogs who happen to be Pits, and also happen to be very loving, compassionate, and loyal companions. If it would have been a Lab, Chow, Rock, Pincher, or any other type of dog.. it would have been an awful tragedy, but not the fault of the owner for having and trusting that specific breed, it hurts my heart that people say these things. Shame on you for being so judgmental..
- The proud owner of two wonderful dogs, who happen to be Pit Bulls.

Re: 21 Reasons to Say No to Pitocin According to Manufacturer

Not mentioned in this article are studies that link ADHD and autism with pitocin induced labors. I am microbiologist who has worked in pharmaceuticals and I have been a Forensic Autopsy Technician that has done a few related to pregnancy/birth!
The drug insert in fact says that its is not recommended for a woman who has received a C-section, as it can promote uterine rupture.
I think Pitocin is okay in the right settings. However the problem is Hospitals push it these days with every pregnancy. If you want to talk about why maternal deaths happen in other countries, lets talk about why the US has the highest maternal mortality rate then any other developed nation. Pitocin carries more risk than benefit in any normal pregnancy.
Duke did a study looking at women that received Pitocin augmentation vs those that did not. There was a significant correlation with autism and the use of Pitocin... they suggested more studies to be done... However they are now using Pitocin in studies for the treatment of autism.. To me that is too much of a risk if it is just hospital policy.
I know from my professional experience at the morgue the risks to the mother from a routine uncomplicated C-section and I would rather have a C-section than be induced by Pitocin. Every C-section weakens a woman's uterus and puts her at risk having it rupture later on in her life.. I take my chances with that over Pitocin. I have been told by a Dr if I wanted no Pitocin that I should not show up to the hospital basically until I am crowning.

Re: If you don’t have anything nice to say about Israel…

Yes ISRAEL is stronger than the palestines, America is stornger than any other country in the world. All the time. Doctors induce because they're going on vacation. They induce because they don't "like" letting mom go over 40 weeks. Or even 39 in some cases. And augmentation? Oh good lord. Almost every woman I've worked with in the hospital has received augmentation, because they simply were not progressing as fast as the doctor wanted. Some were pretty clearly not even in actual labor and should have just been sent home.

As for the second point you made, see above. Women are almost always given pitocin these days because they aren't progressing as fast as the doctor desires. It has nothing to do with their contractions being effective or not. It has everything to do with impatience. If that many women had ineffective contractions, you'd see 90% of homebirths failing and the mothers coming in for augmentation. Yet, you don't.

I have had two induced labors and two natural labors. The pitocin induced contractions were insanely painful, long, and frequent. Had I gone to a hospital with my first natural labor, I would have been augmented, because I had mild contractions every 10 minutes. That's not considered the proper way to labor, right? Instead, I had made a decision to have her at a freestanding birth center. I slowly progressed. I believe I was in "labor" for around 14 hours, hard labor for about 15 minutes. I got to 9cm while still talking and smiling through the contractions. So tell me again how I needed pitocin? As for my second natural labor, it was far more intense and painful, yet didn't hold a candle to the induced labors. It was a breeze in comparison.

There are most certainly reasons to induce and augment, but it is FAR overused and it carries many risks. Maybe look at the areas which have much better maternal and infant outcomes and see how often they use pitocin. It sees far less use, they have far fewer cesareans, and they have far better outcomes than us.

Re: 21 Reasons to Say No to Pitocin According to Manufacturer

I have had four "natural" births. The first two were induced, the second two were not. No pain meds for any of them. My experience was like the vast majority of women who have experienced both. The pitocin induced contractions were complete and utter hell when compared to natural labor. With my first, I had a 3 hour long contraction with no break. My second was a far more gentle induction, but was still very painful. When I finally experienced my first natural labor, I was shocked. That one was abnormally easy. My second natural labor was far more typical and intense (3 hours from water breaking to birth, no contractions when my water broke), but was still a breeze compared to the induced labors. I have to agree with the other person saying that you cannot compare a natural labor with no pain meds to an induced one with an epidural. I really don't care if women get pain meds (I had my own reasons), but seriously....if you haven't gone through labor and birth with a pitocin induction with no pain management, there's no discussion.

Re: Are You Wifey Or Are You Pussy?

Says the poor person

Re: Are You Wifey Or Are You Pussy?

I disagree with you!
